Nordics Best Roaster is a competition that takes place over two rounds.  Roasters from around the Nordics apply to compete by sending a bag of roasted coffee to an international selection jury.  From those coffees, 10 finalists are selected to compete in the finals at Nordic Coffee Fest in March 2025.

These finalists compete in two categories: The Mandatory Coffee + The Sourced Coffee.

The Mandatory Coffee is the same for all roasters and provided by our coffee partner.  This category tests the pure roasting prowess of each company – how well can you roast a coffee with real-world limitations.

The Sourced Coffee is the roaster’s chance to demonstrate their sourcing networks, philosophy and style.  A huge part of the final taste of roasted coffee comes from the raw ingredient, so roasters are invited to source their own coffee for this category as long as it complies with a few qualifiers: a region and maximum price per kg of green coffee (20 USD).

Each competitor will roast the two categories of coffee at their roastery before sending the coffee to Gothenburg for Nordic Coffee Fest.  There, two members of each company + 4 mystery judges cup all of the coffee and rank each cup from favourite to least favourite.  The results are tallied up and we have a winner.

What is a roasting competition without the voice of the public?  During the 2025 Nordic Coffee fest, all 10 finalist coffees from the competition will be available to sample and vote on by the public and attending audience of the festival.

Over two days the public will vote on their favourite roaster from the two categories of roasted coffee.
